Dave, The law likely requires it and to be honest it makes sense to have
them on...especially around the country bumkin county I live in. I am just
saying that I never worry about the cops stopping me if I forget to turn it
on...certainly I am not worried about getting a ticket or "arrested" :-)
They would likely just let me know I had forgotten to turn it on.
However...maybe one day I will meet a nasty cop but so far have yet to do
so.
I did have a South Carolina trooper chase me down once when I was driving my
70 Pontiac to Florida for not having my seatbelt on....I reminded him that
old cars only have lap belts and that I had it on all the time. The 20 year
old kid looked confused for a moment and let us go. I think he was looking
for a reason to stop to see if we had been drinking or contraband. Maybe the
state trooper that stopped you thought you might have been carrying illegal
canadian aliens? :-)
