Ian , I am a Loop afficionado and very much appreciate the Old Guzzis. I
think by last count I have about 13 or 14 Guzzis the newest being a 1983 of
those 4 are loopframes.
First and most important I am a GUZZI afficionado . I did not take lightly
the fact that most of the postings were Negative regarding the amount of
single bikes, the fact that one of the singles was a Robin(I have one), that
they did not have an "Old Bike Award", that the organization was not up
their liking etc etc etc.
Well, part of the draw to Moto Guzzi is the people that ride them. We are
not perfect but have a Big Heart and try hard(sometimes without enough
resources) . I have never been to a Guzzi funtion that I have not enjoyed,
no matter how big or small , organized or disorganized . This is what makes
our group so Special.
And let me tell you ...I know better. I love Guzzis and I don't go to
Rallies riding an old Loopframe for the hope of getting a Ribbon ...
lets write positive s about this National. I have already enjoyed reading
Ken hand and Chuck 's rendition and it sounds like I really missed a Good
One.
Roberto Munoz.

All right, let's focus our energy in a positive direction. I too
appreciate the VA rally "best loop" award, and the oldest Guzzi award
(hey, by my estimates I had 3rd oldest!).
If we really want to see a "best loop" or "oldest Guzzi" award at
Nationals next year, maybe we should sponsor it? "Oldest Guzzi" should
be easy to judge, "best loop" could get political. If all we're talking
about is a plaque, $10 from everyone who has chimed in so far would go a
long way. I'll even sign myself up for $20 toward sponsoring the
"Loopframe_Guzzi Oldest Ridden Guzzi Award".

Roberto, I think you need to stick to drinks that make you less mean :-) I don't think our newest member was criticizing the rally nor insulting the people who put on the rallies with his comments. He was merely saying that having an "oldest bike (RIDDEN!) " to a rally would be a good category to include in the awards ceremony. I personally agree with Bill and others who see our bikes as (still) Moto Guzzis but in a class of their own. Anyone who rides them or sees them at the rallies can attest to that. I liked how Ron had an "Oldest Loop" and "Best Loop" award at the VA Rally. I feel it shows an appreciation for the older bikes. Also...I am a bit surprised at your comments being that you are a Loop aficionado yourself and this is a "Loop List". I don't want to get into a pissing match with y'all but I would like to think that the good Loop folk of this list can make a comment without having their ass reemed by someone who should know better. I'm getting off the soap box now. -----Original Message----- From: alp-@insightbb.com [mailto:alp-@insightbb.com] Sent: Friday, July 02, 2004 12:16 AM To: Loopfram-@topica.com Subject: Re: Long time listener...first time caller Bill, I am glad you have ridden 30 years and are still with us. Don't complain because they did not have the "Oldest Bike Ridden" . Be happy that they had a National in such a Perfect and beautyful place as South Dakota and that so many people gave their time to try to make sure you were happy and enjoy the rally. GIve me a break.. Stop bitching about they "did not have Singles " or this or that . the way I perceived it they were a very small amount of people that try very hard to put a National. You Don't Like it...put one of your Own and make it better.... Roberto. Just came back from playing darts in the league , it is pass 12;00 am and had 3 or 4 or 5 Jack daniels ...but this is my story and I am sticking to it................ ----- Original Message ----- From: bluezi-@att.net To: Loopfram-@topica.com Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 11:47 PM Subject: spam: Long time listener...first time caller Hello All! This is my first time so be gentle!....due to the kindness friendliness of Charlie Mullendore, I found out about this mailing list at this year's West Virginia Rally, and have been reading all your e-mails since then, so now I thought maybe it's time for my two cents worth. First of all, I've been riding for over thirty years, and have finally found my niche'....Moto Guzzi. I have had or ridden just about every brand of bike you can think of, all of them were great fun, and many I still have, but my 1973 Eldorado is the best! Having attended just two Rally's (WVA & Western New York), I can tell that Guzzi people are for real. Not the "Yuppie" type, or the "Look how bad I am" type, just plain, good folks. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the National, but very surprised that there wasn't an award for the "Oldest bike" ridden! I was a long time member of the BMWMOA and even they used to have "Oldest bike" awards. One of my favorite memories is going to the 1981 BMW Four Winds Rally at the "still wet behind the ears" age of 18, on a ratty but running like a clock 1951 R25 single and beating out an old guy (who was about thirty, but old to me then) with a perfect looking 1952 Sunbeam, (needless to say, he wasn't so happy about getting upstaged by a kid!) Anyway, put in my vote for having an "Oldest bike ridden" award |
ALL the Rallies...people that love and ride the old stuff need rewarded for their efforts! Hope to see and meet you all at Vintage Days! Bill Snyder |
