Hello All!
This is my first time so be gentle!....due to the kindness friendliness of Charlie Mullendore, I found out about this mailing list at this year's West Virginia Rally, and have been reading all your e-mails since then, so now I thought maybe it's time for my two cents worth.
First of all, I've been riding for over thirty years, and have finally found my niche'....Moto Guzzi. I have had or ridden just about every brand of bike you can think of, all of them were great fun, and many I still have, but my 1973 Eldorado is the best! Having attended just two Rally's (WVA & Western New York), I can tell that Guzzi people are for real. Not the "Yuppie" type, or the "Look how bad I am" type, just plain, good folks.
Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the National, but very surprised that there wasn't an award for the "Oldest bike" ridden! I was a long time member of the BMWMOA and even they used to have "Oldest bike" awards. One of my favorite memories is going to the 1981 BMW Four Winds Rally at the "still wet behind the ears" age of 18, on a ratty but running like a clock 1951 R25 single and beating out an old guy (who was about thirty, but old to me then) with a perfect looking 1952 Sunbeam, (needless to say, he wasn't so happy about getting upstaged by a kid!)
Anyway, put in my vote for having an "Oldest bike ridden" award at ALL the Rallies...people that love and ride the old stuff need rewarded for their efforts!
Hope to see and meet you all at Vintage Days!
Bill Snyder
