I believe the acid cleaner is good for removing chrome. Got some pink
liquid from a friend of mine who does air conditioners and he said it
would strip chrome. Haven't tried it yet, but will let everyone know how
it turns out.

 Mine did the same thing. I sprayed it on and scrubbed it in with a stiff
brush and then washed it off with some hot soapy water. I did this at
least two maybe three times and it cleaned off all the old grease and
road crud. Just make sure you rinse it with hot soapy water really good
to get all the cleaner off.
