Some types of aluminum respond very well to "anti freeze - in a
crockpot" Plain old GREEN ethylene glycol heated to about 140 degrees
and soaked for a few hours -keep an eye on it- leaves the aluminum
CLEAN and bright . The silicates also help seal the surface pores . Test
well and watch the process and of course rinse well.

That stuff causes clouding and darkening on some aluminum alloys, most specifically those used on the transmissions and cam-chain covers on Eldos.
