All mysteries solved now. Back to the wrenches. Thanks to all. Whatever
did we do before email and internet. I sort of remember trying a lot of
different things until I got it right. And making a lot of mistakes. I
must not be as adventurous as I used to be. Hmm...
Of course back then I was buying bikes with one week's paycheck,
$175-400 depending on the condition. No more of that action. Paycheck
didn't grow at the same rate as a bike's apparent value.

I completely forgot about it until I tried installing piston and rods in my Eldo and they wouldn't line up with the crank journals. Installing the nut took up the slack, I guess end play is set around the front main bearing between the crank and the main drive gear for the cam and oil pump.
