Hi Allan,
When you have the rockers out to retorque the heads, check the tip of
them where they contact the valve stem. Many times this area becomes
"dished" out from wear and when you check the clearances with a
conventional blade type feeler guage the reading is inaccurate (the wide
blade is bridging the dished area). If this is the case, you can use a
wire type feeler guage to set them more accurately. Or I guess you could
get a cheap set and cut the .006" and .010" blades to just a bit
narrower than the valve stem diameter. Cheers,
Charlie.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try it both ways while keeping an eye on the valves. I just installed a pair of new jugs and pistons so I will be in the engine a couple of times to torque the head bolts. how many miles does it take to break in the niskel cylinders? ----- Original Message ----- From: "andy hill" <alh-@adelphia.net> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> Sent: Saturday, August 23, 2003 9:34 PM Subject: Re: consensus on valve lash setting
