<P>As someone who just burned a hole in a piston on my Triumph, I can tell you that's not true. My timing slipped, causing pre-ignition (spark comes when piston is still on the upstroke). Also made a mess of the combustion chamber. I guess it goes without saying that firing the spark at the right time is crucial.</P>

<DIV></DIV>Jones,
<DIV></DIV>I think the thing just fires the plug no matter where the piston is.

<DIV></DIV>Hi, all. Any word from the guys who are trying out the
<DIV></DIV>electronic ignitions from Harpers?
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>I was browsing through the latest Northern Tool and
<DIV></DIV>Equip. catalogue and came accress this: "ELECTRONIC
<DIV></DIV>IGNITION UNIT REPLACES POINTS AND CONDENSER. Starts
<DIV></DIV>small engines faster and easier! Fires spark plug 5 to
<DIV></DIV>14 times with each impulse. Fits most 2- and 4-cycle,
<DIV></DIV>air-cooled engines. Maintenance-free. About the size
<DIV></DIV>of a quarter. Price: $13.99."
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>I suppose that wouldn't work in my Guzzi, but what I
<DIV></DIV>can't figure out is what tells this thing when to
<DIV></DIV>fire. If it can be used in a variety of engines, how
<DIV></DIV>will it know what to do and when? How will it know
<DIV></DIV>when to increase rpm? The picture of it doesn't show
<DIV></DIV>anything that looks adjustable or variable.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>My son and I got a good soaking coming home from his
<DIV></DIV>hunter safety course today. It was mighty cloudy when
<DIV></DIV>I left home, but I couldn't resist taking the goose.
<DIV></DIV>Such a fine machine!
