Thanks all,

I think I am tracking now. Bearing sits in the flange. The pins are what
keep that bearing from spinning in the flange. The flange itself is bolted
to the case. Got it!

Thanks again....Ian

Hi Ian,
The dowels only locate the bearing to the flange, not the
bearing/flange assembly to the engine case - bolts locate the
bearing/flange assy. to the case. Dowels shouldn't need to be
removed unless you'd like to check how clean the hole is under
them. Cheers,

Charlie

 Hey all...need a little advice.

On the front main bearing....there is a dowel that extends
downward into the
case. The bearing I received has the dowel tight in the upper oil hole of
the bearing. I need to drive that out and install it facing downwards and
extending into the case...right?

Same with the main rear bearing?

What was the purpose of these dowels?

Thanks...Ian

p.s. when installing the two bearings into the case would it serve any
advantage to use a little anti seize between the surfaces?
