Tom,

Ian, are you talking about the short little stud that the shock rides on
that is screwed in just under the frame???

Yes. The nice thing about this piece is that it has threads on both endes.
The part that threads into the frame also threads into the back of the
flywheel. The other threaded end is common metric threads and you can
lengthen with whatever bolt length so you can get a washer to compress the
clutch assembly. You will see what I mean when you start getting things
together. If I could figure it out...you will too :-)

Flywheel should have a mark on it to line it up with the intermediate plate
and the crank. I think the manual (or Guzziology???) makes reference to
this. To be on the safe side I would mark everything on disassembly and
reinstall it the same way. This includes the starter ring gear. I have heard
that the ring gear will wear a certain way based on the fact that the engine
will stop at the same spot each time the engine is shut down. Getting the
ring gear orientation wrong and you may have excessive wear.

I have never heard of a flywheel wearing out. Are you sure you are not
referring to the starter ring gear?

Let us know how you make out...Ian
