Tom,
Same happened to me when a tank bag on my '76 CB750F slid over and was
pushing the start button - had my ear plugs in and it took me a bit to
figure out that the starter was working at the same time. Seemed to
work well after words.
These flywheels can take lots of a abuse from starters - still would
like to see a picture of the teeth to see if you really need a new/used
one. Maybe a few licks with a file will take the rough edges off.
