Subject: adjusted points...idles fast now

I was fiddling with the bike today...changed the advance
springs (that has to be easier if you remove the
distributor first!) and while I had the cap off, I
adjusted the points gap. It was a bit too wide I noticed.
Ater I put it all back together, I went for a short ride.
Now she idles at about 1500 or so even with the idle
screws all the way out! Does this mean my timing was off
to begin with? I've never adjusted the points or timing,
since she ran fine so I'm wondering if that was a PO fix
to compensate for the gap being too wide. Would the gap
have any affect on idle speed anyway?
