The reason they pin the rings on two-strokes is that if the ring rotates
so that the gap sweeps across the port it is a disaster. The ring end can
catch, breaking the ring, probably the piston and who knows what. I've
never seen this done on a four stroke and I've seen my share of pistons
and rings. Doesn't mean it isn't done though. I've got to pull the top
end off my Convert so pretty soon I'll be experienced on 1000cc iron
cylinder Guzzis too.
