this brings to mind...if the cap was used and then sat for a while, it is
quite possible that the vent is clogged with hardened gas poo. cleaning out
with a dental tool and a bit of carb cleaner (watch your eyes!) should help.

I pulled over (after almost getting totaled by some zero attention span cager). It started right back up and went about 300 yards before doing it again. This time I thought, hmmm, and reached down opened the flip lever to the gas cap and opened and closed it. Sure enough that cleared it up. I got home and disassembled and cleaned the cap out and it hasn't done it again since. The police models had the screw on caps so I don't know but my lever action one has a small vent hole. The latter I believe has vented and unvented versions. My particular lever one has a small hole in it. A couple drops get on the cap when the tank is totally full. But no guarantees how original that hole is... -----Original Message----- From: Cam Conklin [mailto:Mailca-@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, May 05, 2002 6:14 PM To: Loopfram-@topica.com Subject: Vapor lock My Eldo vapor locks when gas is at a certain level. Today, riding with Keith Ruff, I stalled a couple times in fourth and fifth gear. The quick fix is to crack the gas cap as it's ready to choke out, and a couple seconds later it's cruising great. Is there a cap with a small hole available, or can I drill a small one myself? Anyone else have this happen? It's usually after I get gas. Cam in NJ '74 Eldo Police |
