Keith..I want to share with you my experience with my police eldo...I had an
oil leak...at the mating of engine and trans...figure it was a trans seal or
the main rear engine seal..took it apart and found the trans seal
dry..ok..replaced the engine main seal. closed it up ..ran it..leak still
there..asked an old time guzzi mechanic and he told me that the two bottom
bolts that hold the rear main bearing go through the block and needed to be
sealed at the threads..
So diasembled and seal those two bolts..and you should be ok...check the oil
that is leaking..gear oil will smell pretty distinctive..(stinks) ..
Hope that this will help..

Spent the day with my friend/neighbor Cam Conklin polising up the Ambo and his 74 police Eldo. I put on a bunch of new parts and found I need a few more. I did a closer examination of my oil leak, and what I dreaded most seems to have taken place. After spraying off everything underneath with some Gumount last eve, I put a piece of tape over that little hole in the casing where the engine and trans cases meet, just in front of the oil pan. The oil is leaking from just above the oil pan where the engine and trans case meet, and when I pulled the tape off of the little hole, some oil came out of it also. Based on what I've heard and read during the past 1.75 years, this is NOT GOOD! The main seal was replaced about a year ago/100 miles ago by the 1st mechanic, so I can't imagine it being bad unless it was installed wrong. As for the trans, it was all apart and nearly rebuilt, again, perhaps something went wrong. My question is, how serious is this leak/should I be worried? Some consolation came when I looked at Cam's Eldo and saw he had the same leak, his casing is different, but the leak was from the same "vent" type opening. So how many others have oil leaks like this? I'm not ready to give my bike to a 3rd mechanic in less than 2 years, I've only had this bike at home maybe a month during this ownership! The never ending saga continues....... Can anybody give me some advice/consolation/a case of beer to drown my miseries of ownership? Keith Ruff 71 Police Ambassador - NJ Karl Kologiski wrote:
