CEV is shit. Complete and total shit. I removed them and mashed them
into unrecognizable lumps with a hammer so no one would ever mistake
them for working items ever again. Cheap tin boxes with cheaper
components.

The jap gear was 10 bucks for a bag full of left and right sets and took
less than 5 minutes to wire up and mount. The inner workings are even
simpler than the cev. No springs. No crap solder splatter. No bakelite.
Give the jap set to the dog to play with for a month. 2 minutes and a
toothbrush will make it work again.

The jap switchgear is over rated too.
A lot of people just getting into this stuff spend considerable effort
adapting other switch gear soley because they have been scared by wive's
tales. I have seen locals put together their first Guzzi loop take great
pains to come up with replacements before even trying the original. I
have also seen the stuff crap out at the side of the road. I just want
to take the edge off some of the gross exagerations that bring about
some not so good applications of switch gear only imagined to be
superior to what was on the bike . I have seen a lot of the jap
switchgear turn to poo as well. Again some from owner help ,some from a
little asian influence. Every one has their own experiences, but I
always ride home on what I ride out on . And I have never had a CEV
failure on the road. Zerhackermann wrote:

No not really . It also broke down . Often all by itself . The
operator had nothing to do with the 500 mile old Goldthing I had to
haul back from Toledo. Seems my poor friend's electronic ignition went

into infant mortality failure . In fact the dealer installed
replacement did likewise 6 days after the "repair"

Most of the CEV problems I've fixed were operator error by the
PO.
