ian-
howdy cousin! :>) i have 4 tiedown loops in my trucks, 2 in front of the
wheelwells, and 2 behind. the real deal is not to use elcheapo straps.
the 1st bike goes in, to the left. ratchet it down to where the forks are
3/4 compressed. the 2nd bike goes in backwards, of course to the rt. same
deal on the fork compression. i did this and went 85-90 mph for 2 days- the
bikes stayed right there! and of course, yours will behave VERY well, as
they know very well that they are going to a hospitable environment! [mine
were'nt so sure- NY has a negitive rep.] :>)
don't forget to tell Paul [the borderguy] that you&me are COUSINS! he
will bow down, and pass ya thru, again.
later on,
andy

Hunter and all,
Thanks for all the great advice and reassurance. I think I will keep them
complete, pack one forward and one backward. Checking them each gas stop
will be the norm for sure. I intend on blocking the wheels and tieing them
off VERY well.
I am hoping that the border guys won't give me too much of a hassle at the
border. I have found that if you have all the paperwork in hand they are
pretty easy. Not looking like an Afgan helps too :-)
Georgia is my destination. I'm excited about joining y'all in the Great
Republic although my first year will be rally free due to no vacation time
:-( Hopefully I will see some of you at the MGNA Open House (if the have it
this year)
Regards...Ian
p.s. by the way...I heard that the 2004 National will be in South Dakota. I
think we should plan the next phase of the Loop Meets be there. I know
Charlie will be up for it :-)

Hi Ian, I wouldn't take 'em apart. If nothing else I have learned that bikes take up a lot less space when assembled! I have carried many pairs of Guzzi in my Nissan with no problems and it is only 4 foot something at the rails and less between the wheel wells. As has been mentioned do check them after a short time to make sure they dont get floppy on ya. I also wonder if the customs man is gonna want to look at the numbers or whatnot. That may influence your packing procedure as well. We look forward to having you here! Do I remeber correctly that you are coming to GA? Hunter |
