Hello Kev,
I needed bushings a few years ago. I took the wristpins and con-rods to a local auto engine machine shop. They did a beutiful job fiding one and sizing it. Might want to try the same. Becareful with the oil hole, it's at an angle (45,48 degree maybe)that would be my concern with the VW bushing. If that won't prove a problem then I don't see why not. |
I've decided, for the good of the group, to be the guinea pig on these wrist
pin bushings. I'll check 'em in 10,000 miles or so and report back. There's
a biker friendly machine shop over in Westmont, IL that several folks have
recommended and I'll be able to talk to the guy who's going to do the work.
I've seen the rr motor (trans) mount bolt bent, draging pegs, bike falling, ect.. Won't know that until the nut comes off there. Pain in the ass, might want to try to slot it and tap it w/ a small chisal or screwdriver. Or just cut it off if you can get in there. Kev |
I considered that. No matter what it's going to be a PITA. I'm just going
to try to repair the threads and leave it for later. I didn't realize how
soft these shafts were, including the rear brake cross shaft. They don't get
along well with the hammer. The only reason I messed with it was to get the
footpeg bracket and shift lever off for a good cleaning. I need to stay
focused on the primary mission, getting it running. I'm REALLY looking
forward to riding her!
Thanks again,
