Hah! When I stripped down and restored my 46 Guzzi Superalce, I discovered
that everything in the interior had a nice corroded "high tide" mark. This
motor obviously sat a long time with water inside before the previous person
restored it. Bored the cylinder and added a piston and some rollers and it
runs just fine.
