Gary:
I suspected the generator first; took both generator and regulator to
the local generator shop (great place, two guys with piles of armatures
and old parts on the floor). Put the generator on the test stand and it
was putting out plenty of power, but the regulator wasn't passing it on.
So... I need a marelli regulator--Tom Bowes, if you're out there and
have one you'd like to get rid of, I'll give it a nice warm home!
Thanks,

My point was if you have "been there and done that" ,the generator is what you really need to be looking for. Tom just spent three weeks going at it with regulators. When he at last pulled the generator off it is to see why the windings were toast. He spent three weeks in denial and bought 3 different regulators ,four if you count the 3000 mile old original. He couldn't bring himself to believe his brand new rebuilt VW generator was history already. I even offered ,very early on to loan him the generator from one of my looframes .Heck, what are the odds of getting Three bad reulators in a row ? All from different sources ! BTW Tom does have a decent looking Marrelli generator core . It is probably in working condition .He even has a matching regulator. I don't beliewe he plans on using them . Might be worth asking! ( That is Tom BOWES - owner /operator of "Cedar" he is a member of this group. |
