Hey, I like cheap fixes. The regulator's out of the bike anyway, so what
the heck. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

1)make sure the ground connection is solid. continuity from the body of the
reg (base not cover) should be close to the same as the reading as when the
probes are crossed.

2) clean out the contacts. I used 600 grit sand paper between all three
sets
of contacts. I did this without the unit in the bike. I imagine it woul be
nearly impossible with the unit in place.

3) hose it out with some good electric contact cleaner. the stuff I have
says it's safe for circuit boards.

4) with the bike running, operate each of the contacts manually.
