1. Check that the oil is not coming from the valve cover. If it is,
torque it down, or you may need a new valve cover gasket. Also, torque
the head if you haven't already done so.
2. Your rear wheel should have some drag to it as this is the way to
adjust the rear brakes.
Oh, BTW, change the shift return spring, that'll clear up all of these
problems. :)) (just kidding of course)

I finally got around to swapping out my bad shift shaft with the new part... easy repair and well... I can shift now! Anyhow, while I was making the repair, I noticed a couple of things: 1. My left cylinder appears to be slightly weeping oil just below the exhaust header nut. The oil (very very slight amount) is running along a cylinder fin towards the spark plug. As I was tracing (and cleaning) its route... I decided to pull the plug. Looked pretty good... slight oily residue though. What is this indicative of!?? 2. While the bike was on the center stand I spun the rear wheel and noticed a fairly significant amount of drag on it (yes it was in neutral!... I double checked!). Is this normal?? (hard to define "slight amount" without a way to really measure it... but if I give it a good spin it only makes two or three revs.) Any feedback appreciated. Thanks, Barry Dikeman 73 Eldo |
