Sorry again to butt in but....
Are you and Todd talking Eldos or Ambos with the tappet clearances?
I have been measuring exhaust 0.008" and inlet 0.006". per (I thought)
factory specs. Bob

Todd,

Valve adjustment is easy. Find TDC on the compression stroke for the
cylinder you are adjusting. I use a screw driver that I stick in the spark
plug hole and move the crank by the front crank nut (27mm - I use a big
adjustable wrench) till it is TDC. (need to remove generator belt cover -
10mm). Please note that you need to be extremely careful not to get the
screwdriver jammed in there.

Once you are at TDC then you will use a feeler guage to check for the
clearances. If not right back off the holding nut on the tappet (10mm I
think) and tighten or loosen the tappet screw to adjust to the right gap.
I
 put the feeler guage in the gap and then gently tighten the tappet screw
till it is just touching. Once you have that adjustment retighten the
holding nut while keeping the tappet screw from tightening. I hold it with
a
 pair of pliers. Of course recheck the gap once everything is snugged up.

Clearances: exhaust 0.010" inlet 0.006".

 I did refer to the operating manual I got from Harpers
for the V7's and I did notice the difference in each side
of the rubber connector. Figured the carbs were
mounted at different angle to the airbox. Thanks for
confirming that. Hopefully today I can get that stuff
on the bike and on to the valve adjusting.

And that leads me to my next question. I have a vague
idea on how to do a valve adjustment, and will refer
to my manuals. Any pointers that I should be aware
of? And what tools do I need? (size and type of wrenches
and gauges) Thanks to all for the help.
And I apologize for the these basic and simple questions.
But you Loopers have no idea what kind of moron
you are dealing with. Ha!
