The two Ambos that I got each had one damaged fork. So I had to mate them
together to get a good set. I had the same difficulty in dis/re-assembly.

I had a machinist buddy turn down a tonti frame top plug (same thread) so
that it fit inside the top clamp. Then he drilled and put in threaded insert
for a really strong hardened allen bolt. I put in the bolt and threade the
top plug into the fork tube and used a big gear puller to pull the top clamp
free. Nerve wracking bang when it goes, but nothing went flying.

Reassembly used a machined cup that the top plug fits into so you thread the
top plug into the tube with no allen bolt this time. Then you put the cup on
with the hollow side up. Screw in the long allen bolt and it draws the top
plug level with the top clamp. AH but there is still a a little bit further
to go... so you flip the cup over so the hollow is facing down and re-apply
the allen bolt, this will draw it up the rest of the way.

I can take some reasonably close measurements if you like.

To the the lower tree off, I had to use force. On one I had to use a press.

Hey Gents,

I'll be working on the $200.00 Ambo 750, that I just purchased, over the
weekend. I'll probably be doing a lot of damage assessment and making out
the wish list. One thing that I want to do is disassemble the front forks
and prep them for rebuilding. I have the forks off the bike. My questions
are; "How do I get the fork tubes out of the fork covers?" Do I need
special
tools? If special tools are required, can they be fabricated easily? Also,
any info on parts, seals, estimated prices and the place to
shop for the parts.

Thanks a bunch,
Tim 73 Police GT & 70 Ambo
