I use a strap wrench for my forks. I originally got it
for a difficult oil filter, but it has been useful for
many other things as well. As to oil, I originally put
ATF in mine, but since then have been told that it
doesn't have all the anti-friction additives that good
fork-oil has, so when I change it again (perhaps
today, coincidently!), I am putting Belray 20wt fork
oil in. The factory stuff was 10wt, I've been told,
and since these old forks have very little damping,
many people seem to prefer to go with something a
little thicker then the original.
