The muffled J.C. Whitney fishtails have a good throaty sound and are
reasonably loud but can still get you through a town on the mellow side
if you want.

But any harlie swap meet will have these heavily chromed original stock
mufflers for about $10 each. I paid $5 each for mine.

Each harlie muffler has two pressed in plugs for quietness. Leaving both
in the bike is extremely quiet but feels heavily restricted. Knocking
both plugs out (very easy to do) makes it annoying loud on my Eldo
without a crossover but pleasantly loud on the raT-3 with a crossover.
Knocking one plug out sounds about perfect on the Eldo, at 55mph, the
exhaust is a little louder than the ambient wind/highway noise.
The harlie mufflers are very well made but they are fairly heavy.

Both mufflers are 1 3/4" i.d. so either those adapters need to be used
or a solid steel bushings like I made that have small set screws to lock
it to the head pipe and then the muffler clamped on conventionally.
Pretty easy to make the bushing unnoticable.

I you don't like the straight pipe sound...avoid the straight JC whitney

fishtails. under a c note for the pair, but they are too free flowing.
I'm
gonna try to baffle them some and see if I get some performance back.

There is another pair from JC that has some baffling/muffling inside.
I'll
try those on the ambo.
