Keith and all,
Likely this happened on both sides of the pond. At the factory they probably
set the bikes up a certain way and then Premier likely did some mods for
whomever they were supplying the bike too (like the police depts etc...).
The parts may vary, the titles may be different but the serial number
doesn't lie. That is why I am interested in recording them. As I list all
the bikes and cross reference the info with other sources like Greg's book
etc... I can get a sense of the pattern in numbers and get an idea as to
what the company was up to way back then. It won't tell me what was going on
inside the head of the people back then but I can specualte...which is kind
of fun....since there isn't any riding to be done here.
Regards....Ian

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=/ My 71 police Ambo is a true testament to this fact. I have a V700 style speedo, and, I believe, a prototype police speedo housing as I do not have a kill switch on the housing. I have a push/pull switch on each side, one (the right side) that works the flashers, the other (left side) seems non-functional - I hear it was probably used for a police map light. I have no toggle switch at all on the housing. In addition, the top 4 lights on the housing are not hooked up because the V700 speedo has lights built in for the gen, dyanamo, neutral, and oil lights. I guess I could splice into these wires if I wanted the top housing lights to work also - the housing lights for the blinkers do work, however. In addition, I've got the original police solo springer seat (Caribinieri?). Also have a white tool box whereas I have seen most cop bikes with white fenders and black sidecovers, toolbox and tank. So, in conclusion, I believe they did grab whatever they had in the bins to build these bikes, use up the old parts until exhausted, then used the new parts. Keith Ruff 71 Police Amabassador - NJ |
