When I got my T-3 "junkyard Dog" from the junkyard, it had had a really
bad
job of having a car alternator jammed onto it.
The alternator cover had been hacked to allow a belt. the alternator rotor had been hacksawed in half, then drilled and tapped to put a pulley on the rotor. The the alternator was silicone glued (!!!) in place on top of the block with some cotter pins through the bosses. And the whole shebang was running on a shaft that connected the alternator to a cut down socket and pulley for the top end. There was a pulley tension arm inplace as well.
ugly.
And the most likely scenario is that the rotor took a crap. A 40 buck replacement. instead Farmer John Performance Tuning cobbled together this mess.
I replaced the parts with BMW alternator bits and it works lovely.
Still an ugly Junyard Bike. Love it.

There was a beautiful eldo with a square frame motor at the Guzzi nationals. I was talking to the owner and he said the major change was using the eldo timing cover and tapping the top engine block bosses to except the generator bracket. There was also an adapter he had to use on the crank to except the generator pulley. I guess the problem in using
an
alternator system is that the back of the front fender hits the Alt
cover.
He also used the eldo transmission because of the mounting holes for the battery tray. A friend of mine is building a custom eldo with a LeMans motor. He wanted the alternator charging system on his, so to deal with the fender issue he had custom upper and lower trees made and used the originals for patterns except his new ones were 2 inches longer. This extended the front end to clear the fender. If you would like me to
email
you some photos of the square fin eldo let me know.
