I did something similiar as brad. Once the forks were lubed, I had a =
screw driver handle that was just a little bigger than the tube(slid =
past the threads) and tapped it snug and pulled up then used the plugs =
to thread it on up. A lot easier than I was thinking it was going to =
be, as they were real hard to get out.

I would hate for that pulling to damage the fine threads so decided =
against pulling with that method. Instead I pryed open the lower clamp =
(just enough) and they nearly slid all the way up. I then used the top =
plate and by threading the fork plugs in was able to pull them all the =
way up.
