There should be a stack (mine has about 3-5 per side) of very thin
fiber washers that allow adjustment for where the on/off lever ends up when
tightened down. If the petcock turns past the point of where you would like
it to stop you add a washer. If it doesn't go far enough you take one out.
It's easier than it probably sounds,
I sealed my threads with a single wrap of teflon tape. I don't know if that
is a good idea or bad but they don't leak from the threads.

I've noticed on mine there is about1/4" maybe more of space between
the
petcock
body and the tank, it looks like there is one big gasket or maybe
some kind
of sealer somebody put on. Is this normal?
