Sorry to get back so late on this but I was out of town. Maybe piston slap?
One thing that you could check....When I was doing the engine runs in on my
Ambo I was getting a weird intermittent vibration sound coming from (what I
thought) was the top end. Turns out it was my mirror vibrating. If I reached
out and held the glass to the frame the sound stopped :-)
I hope that your problems are that simple. Let em know what you find out.
