that is great advice, and probably describes the type of sound i'm hearing,
but i have gears [it's a '72]. darn thing runs great- just did a hundred

My father had a 74 Eldo that had a similar noise. After checking the top
end we removed the timing cover and discovered it was the timing chain.
The tensioner had gone bad and the chain was slapping around at low rpms.

anyone xperienced this? bike [ambo] runs fine, but there is a light
mettallic tapping sound that comesngoes on an irregular basis- sounds like
topend, but nothing appears loose, or out of the ordinary.?????? tia,
