Hi Ian: Live in south Surrey about 25 miles from your sister. Not many Guzzi`s
in Our area and hardly any loopframes! Been told Guzzi hasn't been sold in
Canada since 1980, just got new ones this year! My Ambo has a starter button on
the the bars , no floor boards , small side stand on the frame , single smaller
dash with idiot lights built in to the speedo , wide bars ,no siren brackets
that I can find , two up seat ,,tool boxes with no locks , I shift on the left
one up and three down , no chrome side panels , a hole in the back fender below
the frame to fender mount , what's that for ?? , and the choke on the right
bars . Had the ambo for 4 years, been riding for 35 years cause I'm 50. I have
owned a little of every thing in motorcycles over the years , but nothing beats
the simplicity and comfort of the loop frame!!!! This was my first Guzzi and
it's the best thing since canned beer! Over the years the Motor cycle industry
has made the sport over complicated , over expensive and developing very single
focus riding machines .The Ambo to me represents the simplicity , comfort, and
economical reliability that motor cycle riding freedom started out to be!! In
two or three more years I will be retiring .All I need is a spare distributor
cap , rotor , points , and I am out of here !!! See you in Montreal Ian !!
Cheers TED

 Hi Ted,

Nice to meet ya :-) Too bad we each live on the other side of the country.
It would be great to meet up with a fellow Ambo rider. Not many out here in
the Montreal area.

Sounds like the numbers on your bike are right. The 13xxx bikes were made
Jan thru July 1969. The 16xxx bikes were made around July 1970. So yours
appears to fall right in place.

I think the difference between the civ and the police were a few more
cosmetic accessories. Police had floorboards and different bars. Engines
were the same I believe. As far as I know there was no denotion of the two
models in the serial numbers.

Where abouts in Vancouver do you live? I have a sister that lives in the
Kitslano area.

Regards...Ian

 Hi Ian:

The name is Ted Walton and I live out west, Vancouver British Columbia
Canada ,
and Hi to all you fellow Loopers!!I ride a Ambo 1970 , it's all stock and
love
riding it. The build date is Nov. 1969 Ser. # 14278. These numbers are
stamped
on a riveted tag on the steering head and stamped also on the engine case.
Is
this correct? Also how do you tell if it's a civilian from a police model?
Thanks for all the input that you long time Guzzi owners provide for us
newer
Guzzi owners. it's very much appreciated. Ted
