Guzzi's single-plate clutch is essentially a steel version of the RAM
clutch. They came with a sintered bronze plate. Many wore out in under
6,000 miles. Guzzi is replacing them all with dual-plate clutches. I am
gonna put one of the warranty-takeoff single-plates in my Eldo, but
have an organic plate to use in it. You may have gotten a bronze plate
in the RAM.

Or the lube isn't up to the job. Did you respray stuff in the factory
more often than every six months? If so, maybe it's not up to the job
you have given it. Or maybe it's something else. Any noises or
squeaking? Maybe one of the "fingers" on the diaphram spring ha broken
off, or the spring has lost its temper? You can try lube from the
outside or tear it down and look.

 Greg,

I just put the RAM clutch in last winter! I lubed the input hub
with this industrial strength, heavy duty spray on gear lube that I
used when I worked in a factory that was excellent for every
application that we had ever used it on, even open exposed gears and
pulleys, so I figured that it would be great for something that is
never exposed to the elements....could I have been wrong?!?!?!

Do you mean that the clutch plate could be shot!!!! It has about
5000 miles on it....I thought that RAM clutches were good for longer
than that! You lost me on the "sintered or organic" part...I ordered
it from Rick and Gordon at MG Cycle, so whatever they sell is what I
have.

You know, you're scarin' me, Greg...if I spent $500 bucks on a
clutch that wears out in 6 months, I'm gonna hang myself in my garage
with bungie cords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll need to tear it down to lube the spline on the tranny input
hub, or drill a hole in the bellhousing so you can lube it
externally.

It could alo be that the plate is shot. Did you get the sintered or
organic plate?

Cable is lubed, no kinks....sometimes, when I pull in the
clutch to down shift, it takes a while for it to actually engage. Not
always, but I'd say 25% of the time, this occurs. I've tried about
four billion different adjustments, to no avail. Weird, I have no
idea. Anybody else ever have this happen? Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Guys!

I replaced my clutch with a RAM last winter, and now
it's started acting a bit strange. When sailing down the road and I
pull in the clutch to downshift, there is a hesitation before the
clutch engages.....is this what happens when a throwout bearing is
worn out? It looked great when I had it apart 9 months ago, do they
go bad that fast? Is it something else?.....HELP!!!
