One of the problems with a chrome cylinder that has sat for many years is ttht a rust ring will form around the top piston ring on the cylinder wall. Once you soak the pistons with Marvel mystery oil or whatever, the motor will indeed turn over and with work it will work smoothly. But, the ring will still be there minus the crusty stuff that comes off with turning the motor over. Then as you run your newly revived motor, this rust ring will eat up the piston rings at a fast rate. This can lead to smoking and oil blow by at the rings. This is according to David Hoffman at the old Cycle Specialties. A good inspection of both cylinder walls will soon be in order. I had this problem myself and ended up putting iron sleeves in mine. There are a few places that will re-chrome them, but for that kind of money you might as well go with a set of the Guildaronis and start whith new. Hope this helps. Greg '74 Police Eldo
