Hi Larry,
The chrome will likely start to chip off the cylinder walls shortly
after the engine is restarted the first time. Sitting idle for long
periods seems to be the death blow for the chrome plating. In my opinion
it would be wise to replace the cylinders with the Gilardoni Nikasil
cylinder kits (pistons, pins, rings, circlips and cylinders - available
from MG Cycle, approx. $600 for both sides) before you even attempt to
run it. Or have the original cylinders redone (in chrome or Nikasil - I
believe Greg Barratt offers this service) if your pistons are still
usable. Chrome flakes can seriously damage other engine parts over time.
Cheers,

Is there a good way to get a older chrome cylinder guzzi engine back to life? I've heard the horror stories, but not good way to not damage the chrome on an engine that has been sitting for years. Thanks |
