My sincerest thanks to everyone responsible for the rally, especially
Alice and Ron, but also to the rest of the crew. Whatever it cost to
have the rain stay away this year was well worth it! :-) After last
year's almost head-on collision, homicidal drivers on I-81 and
frog-strangler rain the last 30 miles, this year was easily the most
pleasant rally trip I've had in a very long time. The combination of the
people, food, bikes, weather and area all made it a very relaxing
weekend for me (finally).
The "icing on the cake" is that Sophia made the 500 mile trip with the
only failure being a (n.o.s.) rear brake light switch going bad.
Hopefully she's getting past the static sculpture phase and more into a
reliable rider one. The rally was the first place where all of my work
was finally fully appreciated. To my family and most friends, she's just
another pretty old motorcycle. But y'all know just how much time and
effort (not to mention money) goes into a project like this. I thank
each of you for your "positive reinforcement" - makes me feel that maybe
I'm not so crazy after all! Cheers,

I second that wholeheartedly. Sam and I had a great time riding, eating, and BS-ing. Really enjoyed talking to fellow listers about loop and non-loop topics. Saturday nights dinner was catered by a local Italian restaurant (and served up by real honest-to-goodness Italians!), Friday dinner was a homemade stew cooked up by our very own Lannis Selz, so we had good eats all weekend.
I think some of the drool was mine, I really appreciate the attention to detail Charlie put in to that project. Every time I looked at it I noticed something else (kind of like studying the Mona Lisa???), the stock finish carbs highlighted by the polished manifold clamp, adjustment screws, and float bowl nut for instance.
