Ted,
The lower 2 bolts on the rear main bearing require a sealant of sorts when
they are installed as they go all the way through the case. Could also be
the top breather pipe leaking at it's mounting or the return pipe leaking at
the base of the motor. The return pipe requires 2 aluminum crush washers.
Did you replace the seals and o-rings in the tranny?

I drained the oil, didn't see anything unusual, but the oil was pretty black
so it could be easy to miss. I guess I'll drop the pan, easier than puling
the heads I guess. As much as I hate the idea of pulling the motor/tranny
again I guess I'm hoping its just a bad seal. It is not gear oil as it has a
distinctive enough smell to identify. I wiped everything down and the oil
reappeared in the vent hole at the bottom of the engine/tranny mating
surface so I'm pretty sure its coming from the seal or one of the bolts or
something.
