My current issue is that I can't seem to locate any o-rings or cones on
my clutch rod.
When you pulled the rod out did it have a section that appears to be
thicker than the rest of the rod? If so, that is the old, old, seal. It
is simply a piece of plastic tubing (but often looks to be part of the
rod). They were later replaced with the cones, and the latest slick fix
appears to be the o-rings.

THANKS TOM!!!
The rod did indeed have a 'collar' looking area at the point where the
inner portion of the throwout bearing assembly. It is BLACK and HARD
which lead me to think "something this hard couldn't be a seal."
When I asked for an "education" I wasn't expecting one this in depth.
Thanks to all who responded.
