According to the manual, you just screw the dip stick in on one thread to
check the level.

i have the new ball breather mod and bent the flapper pin over so the air
goes throught the box with no restrictions. Dam that mean there is something
wrong with the engine. Will drop oil out and look for chrome flakes. I was
thinking that I could of put too much oil in. Anyone know how long the eldo
dip stick is ? Do you measure with dip stick out or screwed in ? I wonder if
that much extra oil would make a difference.

Hello Ted and all,
I had the same problem, installed the new beather..helped some but did
not solve the problem. Had good compression in both cylinders 170 left,
165 right. I finally dropped the oil pan and found small particle of
chrome, DAMN!! Pulled the cyliders, left had a very small area about the
size of a dime missing chrome, the right side had about 1/2" missing for
about 3/4 of the way around the cylinder. I ordered all parts and hope
to have her back on the road late next week. Good luck.

Hi Ted, I was having the same problem...seems that a new breather has help substantially. I'm with Skip in thinking that the 30 + year old flapper spring get's weak and allows too much air-oil mist into the breather - thereby overwhelming its capacity. So, you might just want to give Rick and Gordon a call Monday morning and see if that doesn't take care of it for you. You could also perform a leak down test...to see how much is actually getting past the rings, etc. Edward Walton wrote:
