Yeah, I would imagine that it would take some serious ummph. The turn
the gas off subject sparked my memory, all in all, not good. I'm ALWAYS
reminding my pal Kev to shut his off. Makes me feel feel like a nagging
mother. I always seem to remember to turn off, but always seem to forget
to turn it on:-)

And I do believe that Tom didn't "forget" to tell the guy about the
wires....

I know a couple of people who left their gas on and filled a cylinder.
They
found out when the bike wouldn't turn over and they pulled the plugs
finding
more fuel than they barganed for.

I don't know about bending parts. You'd need a pretty strong battery
and
starter - my opinion.

Never seen it happen but I've heard of potential hydro-lock. I seem to
remember seeing some photos of parts after hydro-lock. Bent rods,
screwed up pistons, ect. Anyone expand on this?

As a former British bike rider I've made it a habit not only to shut
my
 gas
off whenever I shut the bike off, but I do it b4 I get to my stop to
run
 the
float bowls down.

The potential of gas washing your cylinders by flooding the bike is
real
 and
should be avoided.

Two things.
My rear brake was making horrible noises, I took it apart and
sprayed
 brake
cleaner over all the appropriate surfaces and used a dremel to grind
off
the
ridge on the edge where the brake shoe wasn't making contact with
the
 drum,
put it back together and it was great for a few miles then started
doing
it
again. It not only sounds terrible, but I can feel it vibrating
through my
foot. Do I just need new pads or what?

Also, I left my petcock on last night and this morning had a
surprisingly
large puddle of gasoline under the bike. On one side it was dripping
out
of
the air filter, the other looked like it was coming from the bowl or
somewhere similar. Should I worry about this, or just leave my
petcock
 off
 when parked?

Thanks for sharing your accumulated wisdom.
Ted
