Just experienced the same thing after installing new points on a rebuild
project.
A quick touch with a points file and all was well.
Now carrying a small piece of emery cloth in with the spare set of points as
a reminder.
A friend of mine discussed with his father, a small engine mechanic, who
indicated this is very common w/new points.... Appears there is a fine
coating on them when new, possibly to prevent oxidation?!?
