Hi Ray,
FYI, BMW is no longer using good old Red #10 for spline lubes. I have a
tube in my garage that I use for general lubing purposes, but not on my
splines (BMW or Guzzi) any more.
Now it's nothing but Honda Moly 60. From what I understand, the Moly
provides the high-pressure lubricant needed in this type of application
better than most anything else.
And for those using a toothbrush to apply their spline lube of choice, I
would suggest trying a flux brush. You know, those brushes used to put
soldering flux on copper pipes before applying heat and solder when sweating
a plumbing joint.
Oh, and the least amount of spline lube possible is the best amount.
