I decided to try the Amsoil 5th wheel stuff this time. I ordered it a
few days ago. Two of my friends with lots of BMW experience swear by
anti-seize and I used that on my G5 with no problems. Guess I feel like
experimenting in my old-age. Both the friends who work extensively on
beemers cringe at the mention of the BMW red spline grease. Lots of
opinions. Lots of stuff to experiment with. Good to get real world
empirical evidence here. So far the only two substances that no one has
said anything negative about are the Amsoil & anti-seize, at least in my
memory.

I used that red BMW spline grease on my input hub when
I first put my Ambo back on the road. I took the
clutch apart when the clutch plate teath failed after
~15,000 or 20,000 miles. The grease was gone: dry as a
bone. When I put it together this time I used
anti-sieze, but have not been back in there to see how
it is holding up. I would recomend trying something
other then the BMW stuff.
