Bill,
You can replace it with the same nut that's on the output shaft. MG Cycle
has them and will give you all the info you need on it along with a new tab
washer.

John,
It's the nut. To this point, I have been trying to tap it off while
the old hub is clamped still, but it won't budge. I like the idea that Ted
Ward just posted, and I'm going to give it a try. If that doesn't work,
then I'm going to buy a socket and try to fabricate a tool to fit it. If
that fails, I am going to stand about three feet away from it, and throw
little pieces of garlic and pepperoni at it until it comes apart.....
Seriously, Ted's idea sounds like a winner. I can't help but to wonder why
they didn't just put a hex nut on it in the first place. Can the original
be replaced with a hex when I put the new input hub on or is there some
logical reason that it didn't originally have a hex nut on it?

PS. The petcock package arrived today, but I didn't even open it...since I
have bigger fish to fry right now....Thanks for sending it, it actually came
at the perfect time, since the tank is empty and off the bike for the tranny
removal.

Is your problem with the nut or the hub?

Patrick,
Yup, I bent the tang down that was sticking up. I think I am going to
have to either fabricate the tool to remove it or buy one. My jerry rig
methods just aren't working. It is a right-handed thread, isn't it?
