I did not remove the cam plug for fear of screwing things up so I just
jb welded over the top and smoothed it down with a pallet knife.

I suppose if I worked on as many loops as Mark does, I would too. I'm guessing at the procedure, but I think you simply pry the cam plug out, apply JB Weld to the mating surface, and push it back in.
