Amen brother! I don't care what you ride or when you ride, as long as you
can keep up with my slow ass and enjoy the brotherhood and sisterhood of
motorcycling. To me that's what it's all about.

I've seen this sort of diatribe for decades now, on and off. It really
ought to stop but of course it won't. Riding's riding. I've had damn
near all of them in 40 years. I've had six Harleys, including the FLH I
ride now and have loved and hated them all, just like the rest,
including the Guzzis.
Harley is easy to pick on because they are so successful. Are they
promoting an image any less disgusting than the one Guzzi promoted when
our beloved loops were new and shiny and the company actually spent
money on ads? Hell no. It was all about sex and supposed "class" then.
Look at the old ads. Get real boys. It's marketing. Will always be
stupid, every brand, every product, always. Doesn't have a damn thing to
do with the bike.
If you don't like posers, don't ride with them. I've met them on Guzzis,
Beemers, Japanese, as well as on Harleys. They are individuals, not
brand specific. Come on. Cut the shit and be real.
"Ride Guzzi or Ride Stupid" sounds a lot like Harley's marketing
bullshit. If I just took the bait and ran with it, excuse me, but I'm
getting tired of it after 40+ years. I'm sure it goes back farther than
that, even. Stop watching and supporting OCC and the like if you're
really concerned and hope for something more substantial. It's all BS,
at your expense and for their profit. It's not about motorcycling at
all, is it? Read a good book like "One Man Caravan" or "Longrider"
instead.
I have friends who ride Harleys who think the only tools they need to
carry are a cell phone and a credit card. I have friends who ride old
Guzzis who never ride out of town alone, counting on their riding
buddies to fix their bikes if they break down on the trip. Who is worse?
Lannis, to almost quote you "I have found that there is a very high
density of genuine motorcycle riders and genuine people among Harley
riders". Really. You simply have to look past the first row you
encounter.
Please, let's end this crap soon. Please. This is a great list. One of
the best. I can't wait to get my Goose running someday and have a choice
every time I ride. I love them both. I've been inside both with the
wrenches. I'll ride the Hog to Guzzi rallies and vice versa, if I feel
like it. The Guzzi is well respected among my Harley friends. I would
hope the opposite is true, also. I look forward to meeting as many of
you as I can, even if I drive my old VW bus to get there.
Bob and Lannis, I do not mean this as a personal slam to the two of you.
I have enjoyed and learned from you both of your posts here. Just asking
for a reality check. We have better things to talk about.
Hell, I'll probably regret sending this by tomorrow, won't I? Ray in

Lannis, Like what you said and how you said it. And..... I just made a crack about a guy owning a Harley in a e-mail I just sent out. The main thing I hate about Harley Davidson Corp. is that it supports, engenders, encourages, markets and promotes the concept and the behaviour of "POSING" and it rewards it as well!!! I hate that!!! I actually don't just hate it I loath it!!! H-D Corp. makes motorcyclists stupid! This is a genetic problem I have that I won't apologize for. I hate that which is not genuine. Posing bites big time! You guys are getting way too politically correct for me. It's just fine to say that the walrus-mustached potty-mouthed harley-boy wanna-be loudmouth on the chopper show is nothing but a media-generated punk, who wouldn't know a real motorcycle or a real rider if one bit him on his chin. It'd be true, too. Maybe I'll get the chance to say it to his face someday and we can have another "reality" show on TV where he gets to show how tough he really is by kicking my ass. And it's ALSO OK to say that some movies are really just crap JUST like they look like they are, with no redeeming social value. I've found that sometimes, the emperor really DOES have no clothes, and it's OK to say it and not wonder if you're somehow getting left out and need to say something nice about it so you won't look like you're not with the "in" crowd somehow..... All that being said, the main reason I ride Guzzis is because I have found that there is a very high density of genuine motorcycle riders and genuine people among Guzzisti; don't know why it is but there it is....Note I didn't say they were all likeable or they were all like me, but there's almost no fakes or posers in my experience and that suits me.
