Maybe. My Fiat is cool looking, nice, simple lines even though is has floor rust and lower body cancer. Engine runs well and she starts easy, even in this winter cold. Needs shock towers that I can't wait to install, since I am such an experienced mechanic (yeah, right). Lights, fan, wipers don't work; bad ground somewhere. Send me a pic of your Alfa. Bob

. ...I had a similar problem with an old FIAT I had many years ago. After much weeping and gnashing of teeth the problem was fixed with a drop of Olive Oil on the distributor cam. The mechanical advance was sticking and throwing the timing off to various degrees. Good Luck!! ...Vince in NY..... . .

I replaced the condensor. The bike has fuel, I took off the bowl and it was full. I have also tried spraying starter fluid into the mouths of the carbs with no luck. I'll check the inside of the distributor and the coil wire. The coil wire could be the problem, I made it myself :( (crimped on the end anyway)
Thanks for the tips
Ted

Ok, have you checked your connections on the coil? A loose connector from the coil to the distributor will cause the bike to start running sluggish and erratic like it's starving for fuel and then suddenly run fine and back to sluggish erratic running till it eventually dies and leaves you scratching your head on the side of the road. Ask me how I found this out! Are you still using the stock fuel line cross-over? If so, check for a blockage. Also check your petcocks to make sure their filters are not blocked and which one is the reserve. The reason I say that is you mentioned that one cylinder quit. Check to make sure the springs in your distributor are still attached and that the weights are free to move and are not gummed up. Have you tried another condenser?

I don't think this is it because it ran fine for a while (about 20 miles) then it began to run sluggish and one cylinder quit and I let off the gas and it died and it hasn't started since. But it sure sounds like a timing issue. Is there something inside the distributor that could have come loose to cause a problem like this?

Ted,
You could have your distributor 180 degrees out. Been there done that! It will crank and will almost fire, but will get sluggish when you try use the throttle.

I have a question about my eldo. When I hit the starter, it cranks really easily but if I pull the choke lever or twist the throttle while cranking it's like I just tripled the stress on the starter, the starter will bog down and almost stop cranking. Is this normal?
