Subject: advice on front-end knock?

Hi Folks,
I'd like some suggestions on what to look for- my eldo has developed a
front end 'knock' when I go over (rough) bumps. I *think* its when the
forks extend rather than compress, but I could be wrong. Any ideas on
what it might be? It's not the triple clamps or steering head, that
would've been too easy. Besides, it seems to handle just fine and I
cannot reproduce the noise parked in the driveway. I never have taken a
set of forks apart, so any advice on that front is welcome too. Does
anyone have a spare top-tube cap so I can make the special tool that is
apparently required? Aren't motorcycles fun?
