Hi Ian,
Maybe you could make a patch (for instance 1.5" x 3") out of thin sheet
metal with a hole to fit around the petcock spigot. Have it welded (or
soldered?) to the spigot and the surrounding area. Should reinforce it
well enough for removal and re-installation of the petcock. Hopefully
the surrounding metal is thicker and won't burn through during welding.
Safety first - make sure all remnants (fumes, solids or liquid) of
gasoline are purged!
Another way would be to eliminate the stock spigot and mount a plate
with a hole threaded to use stock or aftermarket fuel valves. You'd have
to drill two holes and either make an internal plate for mounting screws
to thread into or use a tool that Eastwood sells to install threaded
bosses (sort of like a large pop rivet with the hole in the center
threaded - don't see the tool in my latest catalog though).
Elizabeth Radiator in Elizabeth, PA did a friend's Honda CB650 tank last
year - cleaned and sealed for $30. Sorry, I don't have any contact info.
Cheers,

Hey All, I was getting ready to strip my tank yesterday for painting and as I was trying to remove one of the petcocks the threaded recess started to bend in on the tank body. The petcock never came off and I don't think I can try anymore without the metal breaking totally. I will need to repair this. Anybody have to deal with this problem in the past? Suggestions? I am thinking I will need to get a thin piece of metal to have welded. on the bottom and drill new taps. Thanks in advance...Ian |
